When enabled for your course, you can enable the Pearson LockDown Browser. Until they submit their assignment, students cannot open applications or other browser windows. The LockDown Browser is available only for online tests or quizzes.
For example, when taking a test using the LockDown Browser, students cannot:
- Navigate away from the assignment.
- Open a desktop calculator.

Install the Pearson LockDown BrowserThe Pearson LockDown Browser is an application installed on PCs or Macs using the Browser Check. Students working on their own machines are prompted to install the LockDown Browser when they try to take a locked test or quiz.
When administering tests on school computers, Pearson recommends — School personnel install the LockDown Browser before it is needed by students. If this is not possible, you’ll need to make sure that students have the ability to install software on the computers they are using.

- Go to the Edit Course wizard, Learning Aids and Test Options.
- LockDown Browser and Proctoring — Select Use the Pearson LockDown Browser in this course.
- The LockDown Browser might block applications that lab admins at your school need to remotely manage the computer system. Select More Options — You'll need to make an exception for this software and select OK to save the 'whitelisted' software.

Lockdown Browser
However, unless the LockDown Browser is enabled in the copied course, the assignments are not locked down for students.
Use the LockDown Browser with the JAWS screenreader To ensure secure tests, the Pearson LockDown Browser does not work with the JAWS screenreader. To work around this restriction, you can:
- Temporarily remove the locked restriction from the test and have your visually impaired students take the test before the other students begin — The Gradebook entry for the test shows the results for all students.
- Copy the test and remove the locked restriction for your visually impaired students — Delete the results for the copied test and manually enter them into the Gradebook for the original, locked test.
